Arthur Gaskin - b 1862 (Birmingham) - d 1928 Son of Henry Gaskin. Started at the Birmingham School of Art in 1883 and within 2 years and before completing his course was appointed as assistant master. |
Met at the Birmingham School of Art Married on 21 March 1894. 2 daughters Joscelyne and Margaret . Original members of the Birmingham Group (an informal group of painters and craftsmen associated with the Arts and Crafts Movement that attended the Birmingham School of Art in the late 19th and early 20th centuries). In 1899 they started making jewellery together. Leading Jewellers of the Arts and Crafts Movement. Georgie designed the jewellery and they both were involved in the making. Style - Silver and Enamel Work, initially quite simple, silver wire work set with coloured stones and enamel. Later designs became more elaborate. The largest collection of their work is held at the Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery. |
